Quicksilver Pro, February 2012

Wednesday, December 28, 2011

What an exciting year 2011 was for surfing, with Kelly Slater taking out his 11th world title! The year started out great for Kelly who won the first event of the series at Snapper Rocks, beating West Australian Surfer Taj Burrow.

Well, the action is all about to start again, with the 2012 Quicksilver Pro scheduled to start on February 26th.

The Quicksilver Pro is completely mobile to take advantage of the best prevailing surf conditions on the southern Gold Coast throughout the event window; with Snapper Rocks, Greenmount, Kirra and Burleigh Heads all able to be utilized for their world-class surfing conditions.

And, for the first time the Queensland government, through Events Queensland, is coming on board to support the Quicksilver and Roxy Pro and has pledged to continue this commitment for the next three years.

Walks and Lookouts

Thursday, December 22, 2011

The Southern Gold Coast is one of the most vibrant, abundant, unspoiled destinations in the world.  Over the following weeks I would like to showcase the various walks and lookouts within the area.

The first being "Golden Four" Beaches Walk - where you can walk on the beach (hard & soft sand) from Kirra Point north past Bilinga and Tugun to Currumbin Rock.  This is a 12km round trip, but can be shortened to suit.

Rivers Dinner Cruise

Monday, December 19, 2011

Last week saw us having a perfect night out.  We relaxed with a sensational seafood buffet on a luxurious air conditioned vessel, sailed up and down the Nerang River all the while looking at the beautiful Gold Coast scenery and being entertained by a very versatile singer who didn't stop all night.

Departure was from Marina Mirage at Main Beach, we then headed south to the Southport Bridge, where there was a  perfect opportunity for a photo of the Surfers Paradise skyline where all the lights were in their full glory.  The cruise then continued north past Southport Yacht Club, Marina Mirage, Waterfront Restaurants and the magnificent Palazzo Versace Hotel before heading up to Sovereign Islands - home to the largest and most expensive waterfront properties on the Gold Coast.

For something different please try this great night out.

Tattooing has been practiced for centuries in many countries around the globe. Since the 1990’s, tattoos have become a mainstream part of global and Western fashion. This year Mattel even made a controversial move releasing a tattoo Barbie!

YANGUWAH

Wednesday, December 14, 2011

Yanguwah means 'Welcome' and from the 3rd December 2011 Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary in conjunction with Jaran, will welcome guests to an experience unlike any other on the Gold Coast.

The local Jaran Dancers are the hosts leading guests through an engaging evening that includes a traditional welcome ceremony, Aboriginal dance performance and the introduction of native animals and their connection to the Aboriginal people, before returning to the 'Big Red Tent' to enjoy a delicious Kup Murri meal (cooked in the ground) and a performance of Torres Strait Island dance and song.

That is the official write up for this wonderful evening.  We enjoyed the hospitality of Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary last evening and it more than lived up to our expectations.  The favourite part of the evening for us was the singing and dancing, after our lovely meal, of the Torres Strait Islanders.  The introduction stated they only dance in joy, and this they certainly did.  Oh, and the other favourite part was the cute little girl who is going to be a great addition to the troupe in future years.
