Chris Testa’s Tugun Pharmacy is one of the only complex Compounding Pharmacies in Australia. Above the retail pharmacy at Tugun Village, compounding laboratories are busy making tailor-made medications for individual patients Australia wide.

Chris’s father Tony started a compounding chemist in the 1960s on the Gold Coast, when 80% of scripts were handmade. In the 1960s and 1970s mass produced medicine became widespread, but Tony Testa maintained his skills, and Chris has followed in his footsteps.

Now a resurgence in public demand for personalized care and individualised medicines has led to a busy local enterprise.

The Tugun Compounding Pharmacy services the Gold Coast and also provides medicines to patients across the country. They create personalised medicine in any form, including liquid, capsule and cream, controlling the dosage and strength for any ailment. This form of medicine is particularly popular for infants and those sensitive to ingredients found in mass-produced medicines such as preservatives and additives. They even create tailored veterinary medicines to supply Currumbin Wildlife Hospital, Seaworld, Dreamworld and Australia Zoo.

Chris currently has 20 staff in his employ at his state-of-the-art compounding laboratories. As the business grows they are set for expansion over the next 12 months.

The local pharmacy is also at the forefront of research and development working closely with the Griffith University to create new formulas for medicines.
